BeWelcome is the only legal non-profit organization dedicated to online hospitality exchange. (CouchSurfing is now a for profit company, and Hospitality Club was the most famous of these, but has come under criticism about its autocratic style, refusal to delete members' profiles, and some documents that turned up on wikileaks.) If you just want to join one that is in the spirit of the gift economy, BeWelcome.org is probably the one.
